This complete package does not include the Computer Games. They must be downloaded separatly. They also not include the Box art, and the Cards. For cards, I use the Card Creator made by Trent. I have added the Card Creator in v1.5.
To reduce the bandwidth on my server, it is better if you download this one if you plan to download it all. It might take more time for you to download only one file at a time, but it will also not force me to ditch this website.

v1.5 Updated the package with Steve Balobans version of the PDF version of the Barbarian Quest Book. Swapped the Wizards Solo scan into Steve's version. Updated the Kellars Keep book into one with tiles. (Steve again). Included the Card Creator in the package.

Card Creator (All Cards, All Expansions)
Trent's excellent Card Creator.
Check his website for up to date versions. It contains all cards in all expansions, easily printable, plus you can create new cards with this program. I reccomend this before any cards found on this page, and I have included it 'Complete Package'.

Rulebook (American) Bradley Boruch
Rulebook (American) Larger version
Both are high quality Bradley Boruch PDFs!
All Bradley Boruch scans are in excellent quality. This book is scanned in full color. The American version are the newer version of HeroQuest. Most of the rules are the same. The text itself is more descriptive as the European version.
I recommend to print the American one.

I have found the following differences:
* You may search for Traps AND Secret Doors as one action
* Chaos Spells are not used in the European version.
* Traps are not described in the rulebook, but on the Evil Wizards screen
* The European version uses cards for Armory
* In the European versions all monsters can take just 1 bodypoint before they die. Makes it alot easier (too simple) to solve a quest.
* The first quest in the UK edition is The Maze. Each Hero starts in one of the corners of the board, and must find the stairs. The first Hero to find the stairs gains 100 gold coins.
* The first quest in the US edition is The Trial. The Heroes start together, and must find and destroy the Gargoyle Verag.

All Bradley Boruch scans are in excellent quality. This book is scanned in greyscale, but since the original book had no color, its ok. The European rules are the old version of HeroQuest. Most of the rules are the same. The text itself is more descriptive in the American version.
I recommend to print the American one.

Basics
The basics for the main game. Character Sheets, Character Descriptions, References for the Evil Wizard, Monster quicky, and a rules quickchart.

Furniture
The furniture from the main game, using the original tiles, and 'photos' of the top of the plastic top. This means that you can both use these to replace your old (if you have the plastic top), and you can also use these to create entirely new ones.

The Board
A bit difficult to play without a board, even if I think all of you who visit this page have it already.

Quest Book (American)

All Bradley Boruch scans are in excellent quality. This book is scanned in full color. The American version are the newer version of HeroQuest. Most of the quests are the same, but the monsters are tougher, and use the 'Chaos Spells' only available in the American version. Check the American Rulebook description to see the differences. The European version of HeroQuest contained cards for each type of equipment you could buy, the american version contained this instead. Makes sense, becouse everybody will probably have to write down their inventory sooner or later, and keeping cards for everything is difficult.

White Dwarf #134 - The Halls of Durrag-Dol
The halls of Durrag-Dol is a quest for MB Games' Heroquest. Included with this quest are new rules for using Skaven in your Heroquest games and an option to include Kili Thekkrsson as a Dwarf Trollslayer player character.

White Dwarf #145 - The Eyes of Chaos
The Eyes of Chaos is a Quest for MB Games' Heroquest. Included with this quest are some new monsters and a Henchman who will assist the Heroes in overcoming the perils of the Tombs of the Phalanx.

TodayI want to talk about a small jewel of the past.

Agame that was not a true role-playing game, neither a classicaltabletop.

Itstood in the middle of both categories.

AdvancedHeroquest was published in 1989 by Game Workshop.

Itwas meant to be the sequel of Heroquest.

Howeverthe only trait Advanced Heroquest shared with Heroquest was the word'Heroquest' in the title.

AdvancedHeroquest, technically speaking, was (and is) a completely differentgame.

Itshares, like any true Rpg, a character's creation procedure but itlacks emphasis on the role-playing aspect.

The game has a peculiar game mechanic exclusively based on D12.

Advanced Heroquest Tiles Pdf

Thewhole campaign setting is imported from Warhammer, however it is notWarhammer.

Neverthelessthe game mechanic transmits the same grim flavor of warhammer.

Dying is easy if you make too many tactical errors, and improving the character is hard.

No levels or experience points.Training!

Anotherfeature that distinguishes Advanced Heroquest from other Rpg ischaracter advancement.

Youdon't collect any experience points and there are not levels.

Thecharacter, instead of leveling up, may increase his primary stats.

Youincrease your primary stats by one point at a time, and you do it bypaying an increment amount of gold pieces.

Sothe cost doesn't depend on the score of the primary stat, itdepends instead on how many points you are increasing it.

AdvancedHeroquest character's sheet shows nine primary stats – rememberthat primary stats are such because you usually roll them duringcharacter creation.

Primarystats are the following:

Weapons Skill, Bow Skill, Strength, Toughness, Speed, Bravery, Intelligence, Fate and Wounds.

So, when you 'level up' you are indeed increasing, through training, by one point one of these primary stats.

Classes & Races

AdvancedHeroquest employs classes and races, so in this aspect it's likeany other Rpg we know.

Theoriginal manual presented humans, dwarves and elves.

Howevermany fans of the game have done an excellent work in expanding theplayable races and improve a bit the rules.

Classesalso were limited, if I remember well you could pick barbarian,warrior, clerics and wizards.

Again,fans has already expanded the list of classes.

In the web you can find plenty of pdf that contain the expanded rules.

Mercenaries

Oneaspect of the game I really enjoyed!

Hiringmercenaries was very simple and an important aspect of the game.

Youjust had to pay them before entering a dungeon.

Theoriginal box contained indeed the miniatures of mercenaries.

AsI mentioned above, Advanced Heroquest has a high character'smortality rate, so mercenaries is an important add-on for your party.

You had only one type of mercenary to hire, however nothing prevented you from crafting different and exotic types.

Monsters

The original box contained only one type of miniature to be employed as monster.

Skaven!

For those of you that are not familiar with Warhammer, skaven are nothing more than evil ratfolk with a 'calling' for alchemy.

However the rules contained a small bestiary with a good list of monsters.

Orcs, Chaos Warriors, Fimirs, Goblins, Skeletons, Zombies and Gargoyles.

Basically all the monsters that Heroquest contained in its box.

Tiles, Rooms, Doors & Features

This aspet of the game is indeed the one many people liked most (I suppose at least!).

The box came with modular tiles to assemble a dungeon in real time while exploring.

You had corridors, crosspoints, left turns, right turns and T-turns.

Rooms! Not many kind of rooms, but enough to assemble a decent dungeon.

Special features! Like pools, mosaics, statues, traps, chasmes and tombs.

Doors! Doors made of plastic that could open and close.

The quality of all this stuff was high and this reflected in the price, but the game was worth every coin.

The manual included an easy step by step procedure for dungeon building.

The Game Master could employ this tool to build the dungeon before the session. Until here nothing special you may say.

However, building a dungeon while exploring was the most exciting part of the game.

The players knew they were bulding a dungeon in real time, and were aware that every encounter could be very dungerous because the Game Master had little control on the difficulty of every encounter.

At the same time the Game Master didn't know what was about to happen and had to carefullu administrate his resources.

Today many dungeon generator exist, more or less complex, more or less interesting.

Many of them generate dungeons by a software…a sort of plug-and-play if you pass me the term.

It's fine.

But, believe me!

Nothing compare to building a dungeon in real time, while rolling dices and wondering what awaits you behind the next door or turn!

I add that to this day you can (finally) find many excellent tiles producer. Some tiles are even made in resin, other in paper.

Just pick the one you prefer.

Conclusions

Long story short, Advanced Heroquest was a hack, slash and loot, with a touch of sandbox.

If you possess a box, you made a good investment.

If you want to buy a box, you should check something in the second-hand market. People are selling the full box (very few indeed) and its spare parts also.
